Client Trust

Our clients, our priority

Building exceptional trust between us and our clients is something we take seriously. To do this we need to understand what concerns them most.

We should know, because Corporate counsel from 14 jurisdictions nominated us as 'International' winner in the Client Care Awards , run by the International Law Office.

What keeps our clients awake at night?

General counsels among our clients tell us that the issues that keep them awake at night are:

  • managing threats to their corporate reputations
  • managing legal risk as the pace of change in business increases relentlessly
  • ensuring ‘compliance’ across their complex, global businesses
  • delivering more value for less cost to their companies.

We must measure our success by how effectively we support our clients in meeting these challenges, and in how well we help them to complete their multi-jurisdictional work.

Aspects that have to compare favourably with our competitors are: our smooth management of the transaction or matter; the pragmatic, commercial but rigorous nature of our legal advice; and the clarity and simplicity of our documentation.

Client trust

Client trust has to be earned through heavy investment of time on our part in understanding our clients’ needs and adapting our capabilities across practice areas and geographic locations to those needs. We therefore direct most of our investment in client relationships towards building our core, long-term client base. This creates a virtuous circle: high levels of client trust, staff who feel motivated, and strong financial performance.

We also monitor the level of client trust in our international network of offices. 67% of our work involves our offices in two or more countries, and 20% of our work involves offices in five or more countries.

Case study: trends in M&A

Since the credit crunch we have seen strategic, rather than private equity, buyers becoming more active on the multi-billion dollar deals. For example, in a strategic cross-border acquisition by a UK company into China, we represented the company on its RMB11.3 billion acquisition of Shanghai.

Client Testimonial

One of the best China lawyers based in Shenzhen! I appreciated this Shenzhen lawyer's service because they helped me achieved my goals, though it was a tough mission. They are English speaking lawyers, so there are absolutely no communication barrier you likely encounter elsewhere. What impressed me is these Shenzhen lawyer's quick response and professional service, two characteristics which I treasure most. Although the Shenzhen lawyers are based in south China, they represent clients across the country, so you can also call them China lawyer! - Johnson
