Baker & McKenzie is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Aglionby, a partner in Hong Kong and China and head of the International Commercial Arbitration practice in Asia Pacific, to the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade ("CCPIT") / China Chamber of International Commerce Mediation Centre ("CCOIC") Panel of Commercial Mediators. The new Panel of Mediators is effective from 1 January 2009 and is for a three-year term.

Commenting on the appointment, Andrew said "It is an honour to be appointed to this panel. Mediation is a crucial element of commercial dispute resolution in international business and the CCPIT/CCOIC centre demonstrates the commitment of the Chinese business community to the continual development of this important and flexible tool."

CCPIT/CCOIC Mediation Centre is one of the pre-eminent organizations in commercial mediation in China and provides supervision and management for CCPIT/CCOIP’s local mediation centres. Since its establishment, the Centre has consulted on over 6,000 mediation matters with 80% of them being successful. The total number of new-term commercial mediators is 303, comprising 261 Chinese nationality and 42 Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and foreign nationality mediators.

Andrew also serves on the CIETAC Panel of Arbitrators for International (Foreign-related) Disputes and as a mediator on the panel of the US-China Business Mediation Center. He is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; a member of the ICC Standing Committee on Arbitration in Hong Kong; on the CPR (New York) Global/ International Panel of Distinguished Neutrals; and a member of the Advisory Council of Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University.
